We are now seeking Applicants for CHANCES Scholarships - for 2011
Opportunities for Boroondara Students
CHANCES is a scholarship program for talented and promising young people who live OR study in Boroondara. Our program is aimed at providing opportunities and support for young people in our community experiencing financial disadvantage. Our focus is to provide support to facilitate educational achievements for motivated young people. Assistance is available in the areas of academic, creative and performing arts, cultural pursuits, and leadership programs.
CHANCES Scholarships were developed to assist young people who have skills and passion to achieve, however require financial assistance to complete their goals.
The CHANCES Scholarships program is managed and administered by the Executive Team of Foundation Boroondara. Applications for scholarships are reviewed by a selection panel and recommendations for support are made to the Board of Directors.
Scholarships are available for a twelve month period:
New Students - Up to $1500
Renewals - Up to $1000
To be eligible for assistance candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Secondary Student in Years 7-12
- Tertiary Institution (University or TAFE)
- Nominated by the secondary teacher/principal or tertiary institution professional OR
- Nominated by a community support agency in Boroondara ie. Salvation Army, Camcare or St Vinnies
- Demonstrate financial need, low income and or hardship
- Aged between 12 to 25 years
- Show talent, promise, motivation, passion or skill in a particular area of the curriculum
- Live OR study in Boroondara.
What We Cover - textbooks & stationery, uniform, camps, excursions, computers, Met tickets, music instrument & tuition costs and other course related costs. Rural/Refugee Tertiary students may also be eligible for cost of living support.
What we Don't Cover - School fees, students who don't live or study in Boroondara, students from self supporting families.
Applications can only be submitted with a nominating professional at your school or tertiary facility, not by a family member. As we only conduct one round per year, special circumstance applications may be considered outside of these timelines.
